EXPERIENTIAL PRESENTATION

2012 Milwaukee Builders Association Remodelers Council: MBA Home Builders Expo  “Designing Across the Lifespan”

A pilot project initiative supported by the Milwaukee Builders Association (MBA) Remodelers Council at the Milwaukee Home Builders Expo as an experiential learning opportunity, for the public and professionals to gather knowledge and understanding of person-centered design across the lifespan to explore the potential design options available to meet life’s transitions, individual needs and desires.  The ultimate goal was to facilitate the right to self-determination in design and living environments by making informed choices.

A small interactive household vignette, containing mock-ups of a bathroom, kitchen, 2 hallways (with and without a ramp), closet and front door.  Innovative technologies displayed included LED lighting, grab bar design, assistive storage devices, home automation system, high tech accessible tub design.  Assistive devices heightened the experience.  Additional discussions included induction cook top technology, microwave ovens, appliance drawers, curb-less showers and controlling glare.
